A day after police found a 25-year-old married woman dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel in Paharganj area of central Delhi, they believe her husband strangled her and fled from the hotel.
Shaziya, a resident of Seelampur in north-east Delhi, was found dead in room number 207 of hotel Karan Palace in Chuna Mandi around 1.30 pm on Tuesday. The room was booked under the name of her husband, Rashid, who he is absconding.
During investigation, police found that Shaziya and Rashid got married two years ago. But then they started having troubles as Rashid suspected her of having illicit relationships, and used to beat her up. A year later, they got divorced.
After sometime, however, they met again at a factory where they both were working. Six months later, they got married again. For a few months, they lived happily but again Rashid’s suspicions took hold of him and they started fighting. Shaziya then left Rashid’s house and started living with her aunt in a nearby locality.
On Monday, Rashid called Shaziya on the pretext of talking to her, and said he felt guilty about his behaviour. They then checked in a hotel.
‘The closed circuit television footage shows both of them entering the hotel but Rashid leaving alone after a few hours. We suspect that they fought again, and Rashid ended up strangling her in a fit of rage. He then fled from the hotel,’ said a police officer.
Rashid, who hails from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh and is currently living in Seelampur, is absconding. ‘We are questioning his relatives about his whereabouts,’ said the officer.
