Till date, the party has claimed of collecting over 10.5 lakh hair and nail samples, which is to <g data-gr-id="42">be send</g> to the PM. According to JD(U) office-bearers in Patna, <g data-gr-id="41">collection</g> of over 10.5 lakh samples in just 35 days has proved the popularity of Kumar.
The Swabhiman rally, which is scheduled on August 30, will be the first big show of unity to showcase the Congress solidarity with JD(U) and RJD in Bihar. The rally will be organised a year after the two leaders — Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad — joined hands to defeat the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state.
“Till date, the party has collected 10.5 lakh samples from JD(U) leaders and workers for DNA test and we have set a target to collect 50 lakh samples during the Swabhiman rally on August 30,” JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar told Millennium Post.
Providing more details about the programme, Kumar said, “The plan is to set up over 80 counters at Gandhi Maidan in Patna to collect samples during the proposed rally on Sunday. Participation of people in the sample collection movement shows that they still rely on Nitish Kumar and they will not tolerate any kind of insult by anyone.”
“The party has given a target to party leaders including legislators, MPs and others to collect samples for DNA test from their respective constituencies across the state,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also come out in support of his Bihar counterpart over Modi’s DNA <g data-gr-id="39">barb</g>. During his maiden visit in Bihar, Kejriwal had said that the residents would respond in the assembly polls on Modi’s “DNA <g data-gr-id="40">barb</g>” about Kumar.
“It was wrong to say that there was something wrong with the DNA of Nitish Kumar. It was an insult to Bihar,” Kejriwal had said, adding that people of Bihar will reply to it in the Assembly elections.
Taking a jibe at Kumar’s DNA sample collection drive, Bihar BJP spokesperson Vinod Narayan Jha told Millennium Post that Kumar had blown the issue out of proportion as PM Modi had never
‘commented’ on the DNA of citizens of the state.
“Modi had never said that the DNA of Biharis has gone wrong and it should be tested. The PM had made comments on the political DNA of Nitish Kumar, which is true as Kumar has changed a lot after snapping ties with the BJP,” Jha said, adding, “When Nitishji was with the BJP, he had always blamed RJD chief for making Bihar a BIIMARU state and now Lalu is his ally partner. Will Kumar develop the state with the help of Lalu?”
Jha further added, “It’s scientifically proven that DNA of two persons is not same. Then why he is wasting so much government’s fund in collecting DNA.”
Earlier, the JD(U) had launched a “<g data-gr-id="44">shabdwapsi</g>” campaign to create pressure on PM Modi to take back his remark and started a drive to collect signatures. Modi, while addressing a public meeting in Muzaffarpur on July 25, had said, “There seems to be some problem in his (Nitish Kumar) DNA because the DNA of democracy is not like that. In <g data-gr-id="49">democracy</g>, you give respect even to your
political rivals.”
