JD(U) pats self, says crime less in Bihar than BJP-ruled states

Launching a counter-offensive against former ally BJP for alleging a spurt in the crime graph of Bihar since it left the government, JD(U) on Tuesday quoted official figures to assert that the crime rate in the state was less than that in BJP-ruled states, including Gujarat.

JD(U) national general secretary and Bihar minister Shyam Rajak quoted figures from National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) to establish that the crime rate in Bihar was far less than those in BJP-ruled states of Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

BJP has been attacking Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar almost daily for the serial bomb blasts at Narendra Modi’s rally on 27 October and has alleged that the situation in the state has deteriorated since it quit the government in June.

Quoting the NCRB report, Rajak told reporters that in 2012 the total number of recorded heinous crimes in Bihar was 1,60,271 compared to 3,62,649 in Gujarat, 3,24,845 in Madhya Pradesh and 3,18,615 in Chhattisgarh. Even in terms of crime against women Bihar fared better than the three BJP-ruled states, he said.
