JD(U), BJP slug it out over Bihar Assembly polls

Pointing out BJP's devastating defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, JD(U) general secretary KC Tyagi said: "The BJP does not have anyone to stand opposite Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. <g data-gr-id="33">May be</g> they are looking for a Kiran Bedi in Bihar too, but let me tell you, even that candidate will face the same defeat as Bedi did in Delhi."
Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha had recently said it would be better if the BJP goes to Bihar elections with a Chief Ministerial candidate to take on Kumar, who is named by the 'secular alliance' as its nominee. "It will be better if the BJP Parliamentary Board names a general who would lead the troop in the battle (Bihar poll)," Sinha had said.
"I want to ask BJP leader Sushil Modi, who will be the face of BJP in Bihar? Even Shatrughan Sinha has asked the same question. The party doesn't have any candidate that is why it is saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the face of Bihar elections, I just want to ask, will Modi resign and take over as Bihar Chief Minister?
Tyagi believes that the JD(U)-RJD alliance is more than enough to give BJP a tough competition, he further said, Modi's popularity has declined considerably and the strength of our alliance is stronger than ever.
On the other hand, the BJP has labelled the JD(U)-RJD alliance a "convoy of corruption" formed just to gain political muscle.
Union Minority Welfare Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "that this alliance is a convoy of corruption, that came into being just to grasp political power, public will gain nothing from it."
Although, JD-U MP Ali Anwar Ansari said that his party is a peace-loving party but if someone tries to spread hatred or divide people, we will never let them succeed.
We will not let BJP <g data-gr-id="27">to defeat</g> us, we will take all the precautions to not let them win, he further said.
The Bihar legislative assembly elections are due in 2015 as the tenure of the current Legislative Assembly of Bihar expires on November 29, 2015.
RJD names nominees for MLC Polls
The RJD) on Sunday released a list of its 10 candidates for the biennial elections to the Legislative Council of Bihar and said they will help to "end the existence of BJP-RSS" in the state. The candidates will enter the fray for the biennial polls to the 24 Legislative Council seats scheduled on July 7, 2015. The last date of filing the nominations for the Council polls is June 18.
Refused Shah's offer to merge my party with BJP: Manjhi
Former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday said he had refused BJP chief Amit Shah's offer to merge his Hindustani Awami Morcha ahead of the Assembly polls and would only join the NDA. Manjhi added he is not in <g data-gr-id="60">race</g> for the CM's post and only a BJP leader would be the candidate. "I refused Shah's offer to merge HAM with BJP. We will only join hands with the NDA as an alliance partner to take on <g data-gr-id="58">combine</g> of (Bihar CM) Nitish Kumar, (RJD chief) Lalu Prasad and Congress in upcoming polls," he said.
