One-and-a-half months before marriage, a 35-year-old head constable of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) committed suicide while on duty by shooting himself with a country-made pistol on Wednesday morning.
The Central Reserve Police Force personnel was identified as Hemant Kumar, who was posted at the CGO complex in South Delhi, police said. No suicide note was recovered from his possession. “Hemant shot himself with a country-made pistol around 10 am in a bathroom at the CGO complex,” said a senior police official adding: “The body of the deceased CRPF personnel was sent for autopsy and the report is awaited.”
Meanwhile, it is also a matter of investigation that from where did he manage to get a country-made pistol and how did he bring that pistol inside the headquarters, despite such high security. During investigation it was learnt that he was a resident of Krishna Nagar, East Delhi, and was staying with his parents. He also has two siblings who stay elsewhere. Few months ago he got engaged and in August he was supposed to get married.
However, the exact reason behind taking this extreme step is yet to be ascertained. His family members, relatives, colleagues, fiance are being questioned. It was learnt that Kumar was working in the public relations cell of the force and was on morning duty when the incident happened. Soon after the gun shot was heard in the well-secured CRPF headquarter at Lodhi Road, troops in the vicinity reached the spot. “He was found lying in a pool of blood. A court of inquiry has been ordered,” one of them said. This is probably the first time that any such suicide incident has taken place right inside the CRPF headquarter, they said.
