To seek reintroduction of quota for Jats, which was cancelled by the Supreme Court in March, the community has decided to gherao the residences of PM Narendra Modi and other cabinet ministers in July.
Akhil Bhartiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti National President Yashpal Malik said on Monday that the court’s order has “jeopardised the future of thousands of youths”. He added the PM and BJP president Amit Shah had on March 27 assured Jat leaders that the Centre would take appropriate steps in this regard and try to find out a solution.
“But nothing has been done so for. Thus, we doubt the intention of the government,” he added.
The <g data-gr-id="16">samiti</g> also demanded jobs and admissions under OBC quota category for jat youths, who had cleared exams and other formalities before the court’s decision.
The Apex Court, in its verdict on March 17 this year, had set aside the 2014 notification of the then UPA government to include Jats in the central list of OBC in nine states for quota benefits.
