Japanese tourist rape: 6 held guilty, police praise ‘determined’ victim

A city court on Friday sentenced three men, accused of raping a 20-year-old Japanese tourist in February this year, to 20 years in jail, while three others found guilty of conspiring to gang-rape the woman have been sentenced to two years jail each.
The police are in all praise for the victim and her resolve to get justice, which lead to swift action and conviction of the six accused.
Within two months of the incident, the girl returned to India for an identification parade and recorded her statement. She was “very much” determined for justice, said IG Jaipur Range DC Jain.
Police said it was the first case in Rajasthan, where Section 376 D (amended rape section) of IPC was used. “It was a heinous crime and we wasted no time in arresting the accused,” he said.
He added it was a challenge before the police to take the case to its conclusion and the victim was very much cooperative because she was also keen on getting the justice.
Ola cabbie held for molesting Finnish girl
An Ola cab driver was arrested here on Friday for allegedly molesting a Finnish girl, the police said. The girl, who was working as an intern in a company, filed the complaint at the Shastri Nagar police station in the afternoon, alleging that the driver of the cab tried to molest her, while she was travelling from a hotel to the paying guest accommodation. “The incident occurred around <g data-gr-id="47">1am</g> on Friday. The girl filed a complaint later in the day. We have arrested the driver under Section 354 of the IPC. He is being interrogated," said a police official.
