Japan hanged three death-row inmates on Thursday, reports said, which, if confirmed, would be its first execution since the conservative government swept to power in December. Public broadcaster NHK and other Japanese media reported that the trio were put to death early morning without identifying the condemned prisoners. The justice ministry did not immediately confirm the reports but Justice Minister Sadakazu Tanigaki was to hold a press briefing.
