January-November domestic airlines traffic grows 20.41%

There has been 20.41 per cent passenger growth in domestic airlines from January to November in 2015, said the government. The Ministry of Civil Aviation informed that  as per traffic data submitted by various airlines, passengers carried by domestic airlines during Jan-Nov 2015 were 733.82 lakhs as against 609.43 lakhs during the corresponding period of previous year thereby registering a growth of 20.41 per cent.

The traffic movement in  the  year 2015 submitted by various domestic  airlines was analysed and the data was released, said the ministry. On the issue of passenger load factor, Air India has seen a rise from 74.6 per cent in the month of October to 81.7 per cent for November this year. The passenger load factor (for all domestic airlines) in the month of November 2015 is almost equal compared to previous month primarily due to the ongoing tourist season.

The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines in the month of November 2015 has been 0.78 per cent. The primary reasons for cancellations of domestic airlines include – technical - 11.1 per cent, operational - 7.3 per cent, weather - 39.6 per cent, commercial - 4.0 per cent and miscellaneous - 38 per cent. 

During November 2015, a total of 857 passenger related complaints had been received by the scheduled domestic airlines. The number of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried for the month of November 2015 has been 1.2.

“During the month of Nov 2015, all the scheduled domestic airlines complied with the mandatory capacity deployment requirements contained in the Route Dispersal Guidelines,” stated the ministry. On-Time Performance (OTP) of scheduled domestic airlines has been computed for four metro airports viz. Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai by the ministry. Regarding Air India the OTP for these four cities is -- Bangalore 77.1 per cent, Delhi 77.2 per cent, Hyderabad - 86.8 per cent and Mumbai  - 61.4 per cent. Reasons for delay for domestic airlines have been analysed, and it has been found that majority of delays have been attributed to ‘Reactionary’, said the ministry.

Regarding OTP for foreign airlines, there are more than 70 foreign carriers operating to or from India. At the time of compilation of this report, OTP data of 36 carriers was received. The overall On-Time Performance (OTP) of these 36 carriers for the month of Nov 2015 has been 82.1 per cent in departures and 77.9 per cent in arrivals.
