Jamia wants all interviews on camera

In an attempt to ensure transparency into the admission of students for the academic year 2012-2013, Jamia Millia Islamia University will be recording the interviews that precede admission into various courses on offer at Anwar Jamal Kidwai Mass Communication and Research Centre.

'This will ensure transparency in admissions,' said Simi Malhotra, media coordinator of the university.

Ex-students of the university applaud administration's effort saying that this would bring down the admissions influenced by political will as well as put immense pressure on the faculty members to judge students according to their merit.

For Ashwini Chauhan, a former student, the university has taken a right step in the right direction. 'The admissions would become free and fair. If a student has any doubt regarding his/her admission, he/she can ask for the video and have a look at it. I hope other universities would also adopt this admission process,' said Chauhan.

An applicant, who did not wish to named, and who went through the recorded interview on Monday said,  'As it was being recorded, I was nervous and fumbled a lot during my interview. It was not up to my expectations.'
