Jamia professor awarded three-year NASA project

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA) has awarded Atiqur Rehman, a faculty member of Jamia Millia Islamia University, a three-year project with it.
Rehman is a professor at the Department of Geography and has been granted the project on 'Understanding Impacts of Desert Urbanisation on Climate and Surrounding Environments to foster sustainable cities using remote sensing and numerical modelling ' by the American space centre. Soe Myint from the Arizona State University is the project’s principal investigator and will be assisted by members from Yale,North Carolina and Arizona respectively.
A Jamia spokesperson said that, ‘The project was submitted to NASA under their Interdisciplinary Research in Earth Science Programme – Impacts of Urbanisation on the Environment Solicitation.' The project has been assigned for a period of three years from 1 August, 2012 to 31 July, 2015. The total cost of the project, to be funded by NASA, is $ 7,65,990.
