The Rajya Sabha witnessed stormy scenes on Tuesday as the Opposition attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘scam to skill India’ remark in Toronto, which targeted previous governments.
Members from both the sides indulged in heated arguments on a notice moved by Anand Sharma of the Congress for suspension of the business of the House to discuss Modi’s statements abroad. Sharma led the opposition attack against Modi while finance minister Arun Jaitley defended the PM.
“There’s no gag order,” Jaitley said in defence of PM Modi. “Why can’t PM Modi speak on what happened in last 60 years? The Prime Minister is entitled to say he will put an end to what happened for 60 years,” said Jaitley. “The Prime Minister said he will be cleaning up the mess of last 60 years. PM Modi has insulted India’s history for last 60 years. He has insulted Jawahar Lal Nehru, Atal Bihari Vajpayee with his remarks,” said Sharma.
