Jain orders probe into Bawana blast

Delhi Power minister Satyendra Jain inspected the Bawana gas-based power plant on Wednesday morning. There had been a blast in the transformer of the power plant on Tuesday. After inspecting the power plant, the minister directed the department of power to conduct an inquiry to ascertain the reasons behind the blast.

“Delhi government has decided to set up a high level inquiry into the incident. The inquiry will be conducted by a committee headed by Sanjeev Singh, managing director, Delhi Transco Limited,” said a Power Department official.

The committee is expected to submit its report within seven days to the department of power for further and necessary action.  A few days back, Health minister Jain had visited the Baba Saheb Hospital (Rohini) and Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital (Jahangirpuri) at night. He asked the medical superintendants of both hospitals to explain the reason behind the pathetic state of affairs in their respective hospitals within a week.

During surprise visits of both these hospitals on Monday night, the minister noticed pathetic condition of hygiene and sanitation. After taking a round of these hospitals and speaking to patients and their relatives, Jain decided to seek explanation from both the medical superintendants for their professional lapses.

It was brought to the notice of the minister at both the hospitals that these top officials were inaccessible and unavailable even in situations of emergency.

Satyendra Jain has directed the health department to inform all the hospitals that the Delhi government will strictly implement a policy of zero tolerance towards callousness in dealing with patients and in providing quality healthcare to the residents of the national Capital.
