Jabalpur court convicts 3 for abduction

A court in Jabalpur on Monday awarded life <g data-gr-id="30">improsonment</g> to a man, and five years jail term to two others, in an abduction case.

The Additional Sessions Judge & Special Judge, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh sentenced Rajiv Kumar Tiwari alias Rajan to life imprisonment. Khachu Ahirwar and his wife Mamta Ahirwar were handed out five years of rigorous imprisonment, in connection with the abduction.

A 20-year-old girl on November 18, 2005, had been kidnapped by Rajiv, who was said to be having an affair with her. The girl’s <g data-gr-id="38">father,</g> had reprimanded Rajiv publicly for having an affair with his daughter, following which he had taken this step.

Rajiv had asked the girl to accompany Khachu and his wife Mamta to Allahabad on a false pretext. The husband and wife on reaching <g data-gr-id="34">Allahabad,</g> sold off the girl to one Tehsil Moth for Rs 18,000 and she was forced to marry him. After the girl’s <g data-gr-id="32">abduction</g> there was no news of the girl.

A case was undergoing in Madhya Pradesh High Court and the three accused were undertrials when the girl’s father filed a Habeas Corpus Petition before the High Court seeking a CBI investigation. 
The agency took up the case and investigated the same, interrogating the girl’s close associates. It was later found out that the girl was living with Tehsil. The girl had reportedly, in May 2008, contacted her family saying, she was happy with her husband.

After the phone call from the girl, the High Court allowed her to stay with her husband. A <g data-gr-id="39">chargesheet</g> was filed after conducting <g data-gr-id="37">thorough</g> investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against the said persons on December 29, 2008, in the Court of Additional Sessions Judge. Subsequently, the trio were punished under several  sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
