It’s scorching but Capital may soon get relief, predicts MeT

Delhiites may soon get respite from the scorching heat, predicts the MeT department. As May Day witnessed the workers and elite sweat alike, with a maximum temperature at 44 degrees Celsius, forecast of rain and thunderstorm in the next 48 hours is expected to provide relief. One can hope for relief from the heat wave-like conditions, due to an induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan. Technically termed as ‘western disturbance’, it is reported to move eastward which will change the wind pattern and moisten the south-west bound winds. With an increased level of humidity, high temperatures are likely to develop thunderclouds leading to thunderstorm and dust storm over Delhi-NCR from Tuesday. An official from the MeT department confirmed a dip in mercury and said: “Today (Monday) the entire North-West India experienced high temperatures. Safdarjung in Delhi recorded a maximum of 44 degrees Celsius. It is possible that the temperature will fall in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi due to the western disturbance. The wave is expected to retract from May 3-5, causing a fall of 2-4 degrees Celsius.”
