It all started with a birthday bash!

The song Saturday Saturday is an old Delhi favourite. It was so famous that Karan Johar picked it up for his film, Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniya. The Delhi based singer Indeep Bakshi is the voice behind this hit. Millennium Post gets candid with the singer. Read on...

How did you shift from architecture to music?
Music was a passion for me always. It was a passion that changed to my profession. I used to download music from YouTube and sing along. I used to mix music by myself.  Like I made this song Saturday Saturday for my friend. It was her birthday so I made it to tease her (Laughs). So when we were in the lounge, I played the song for her, you know Sarojini ke Kapde Pehen Ke... And then the lounge people started repeating the song. People were also singing along. It was then that I realised that I should go ahead it. I went back and recorded the song professionally and now it has over 2 million likes.

You're just 23. Your life must be so different from your friends?
(Laughs) Yes yes. My life is very different. Suddenly, anywhere I have to go, I go with security. It all looks so good from outside, but actually it is different.
How did Bollywood happen?

After I made this song, I got many calls from production houses but I kept saying no. I wanted to be a part of a big production house. And then one day Dharma Productions called and na ka to koi sawaal hi nahi tha!

You have any future projects in Bollywood?
Yes, I have got a call from Madhur Bhandarkar’s production for the song Madamji. It is still in the pipeline. Let’s see how it goes.
Who is your favourite singer?
I don’t have too many Indian favourites. I really like Pitbull and Usher.
Have you ever learnt singing?
No! But after my song became so famous, I thought I really need to work on my singing. And then I took professional training.
What has changed, now that you’re famous?
(Laughs) A lot! My friends have changed... Only a few old ones remain.
And girlfriends?
All my female friends are my girlfriends!Actually the problem is that whenever I make a song for my girlfriend the next day she leaves me. Like that girl left after the song Saturday Saturday, then other one left after Madamji... now I have made a song being sad about it (My new track 2AM). It’s a romantic one. So let’s hope usko sunn ke koi aa jaye!
