‘Ishant can’t be a game changer for India’

And now, ahead of India’s tour to South Africa, De Villiers says Ishant can never be a game-breaker in South African conditions, because he lacks dynamism.

Knowing the South African conditions like the back of his hand, De Villiers knows what it takes to shun the odds in a fast and bouncy wicket. ‘He can’t be a game changer for India, since he lacks dynamism.

He is undoubtedly a talented bowler, but I think he’s a bit too concerned about building his image off the field,’ De Villiers told a news agency. And, De Villiers says too much concern about image is taking a toll on Ishant’s career. ‘He should keep a Tendulkar or a Roger Federer as the role model, because they have gone out of their ways to achieve success. As a bowler, you need to show the right characters, so that the opponent batsmen would be scared of you,’ De Villiers felt.

The former speedster, who had created ripples in world cricket, along with Allan Donald, however, is all excited about the prospect of youngster Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The pacer from Uttar Pradesh has impressed him by bowling in the right areas. ‘He is a promising talent. With a little more speed and muscle power, he can be India’s go-to man in South Africa,’ an optimistic De Villiers said.
