ISC topper brings laurels to Kolkata

Surprises and cheers were in store for two Kolkata students who topped the ICSE and ISC examinations on Monday. 

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (<g data-gr-id="52">CISCE</g>) declared the Class X (ICSE) and 
Class XII (ISC) 2015 results on Monday.

<g data-gr-id="68">Saugato</g> Chowdhury (99.20 per cent) of St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, and Ananya <g data-gr-id="69">Hardshad</g> <g data-gr-id="70">Patvardhan</g> and <g data-gr-id="71">Tesan</g> Tapan Sahu of St. Mary’s ICSE School, Navi Mumbai, were the joint toppers in ICSE.

<g data-gr-id="57">Arkya</g> Chatterjee (99.75 per cent) from Vivekanand Mission School, Kolkata, topped the Class XII examination. Chatterjee said he could not believe the results initially.

“I used to study for around 10 hours <g data-gr-id="59">everyday</g> including the tuition hours. I did not opt for any special coaching except those required for the engineering entrance exams,” he said.

Chatterjee is a big fan of Feluda, the Bengali fiction series and says he used to read the books even days before his examination. He is also a huge fan of the Barcelona football club. The topper says he used to take breaks from studying and often enjoyed playing the keyboard. His grandfather also devoted a lot of time teaching him, he adds.

Speaking to a private news channel, he said: “As soon as the results were announced, I was greeted and given a grand welcome by the school principal, teachers and my friends at my school. Everyone around seemed to be in high spirits following the announcement of the results. A major credit of my achievement goes to the school.”

<g data-gr-id="61">Saugato</g>, on the other hand,  is an official FIDE chess player and enjoys watching cricket. 

Ecstatic after his result, he says: “I took tuitions for English, Hindi and Computers, strategised my time to study 16 to 17 hours daily for the exams.” He has a keen interest in cryptography and would like to pursue science with computers in  future. He was speechless when he saw Mamata Banerjee’s tweet congratulating him. The Chief Minister congratulated both the candidates on social networking sites and gave her best wishes. A total of 71,141 students appeared for ISC from 909 schools across the country this year.

A total of 1,59,738 students registered for ICSE from India and abroad, out of which 29,903 were from Bengal.

A Ghaziabad student has secured top position in ISC (class XII) exams in the Delhi-NCR region of <g data-gr-id="63">CISCE</g> with a score of 99 per cent. 

Rupal Goel from Holy Child School, Ghaziabad, topped ISC class XII examination 2015 conducted by Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (<g data-gr-id="78">CISCE</g>) in Delhi-NCR region, chief executive officer of the Council Gerry Arathoon said Monday while announcing the results. Yashvardhan Tomar of St.  Mary’s Academy in Meerut Cantt, also included in CISCE’s Delhi-NCR region, topped ICSE (class X) exams securing 99 per cent marks. A total of 1,793 students had appeared in the Class XII examination this year and the overall pass percentage is 97.27. 

Girls have done better than boys recording pass percentage of 97.65 per cent as compared to latter’s 96.88 pass percentage. 

Aditya Maru from Shri Ram School, Gurgaon; <g data-gr-id="80">Sanyam</g> Gupta from St. Mary’s Academy, Meerut and Chaitanya Gupta from Shri Ram School, Gurgaon, secured second rank with 98.25 per cent marks. 

Five students — <g data-gr-id="81">Prannay</g> Srivastava from Shri Ram College, Gurgaon; <g data-gr-id="82">Divjot</g> Kaur from Frank Anthony Public School, New Delhi; Rashi Jalan from St. Joseph’s Academy, Ghaziabad; Harshit Garg from St. Thomas’s English Medium School, Meerut; <g data-gr-id="83">Aradhita</g> Gupta of Shri Ram School (Aravali), Gurgaon, were placed third by securing 98 per cent marks in class XII exams. 

The ICSE (class X) examination was taken by 3,790 students in the Delhi-NCR region. The overall pass percentage is 98.50. 

Girls with <g data-gr-id="53">pass</g> percentage of 99.14 overshadowed the boys whose pass percentage stood at 97.94 per cent. 

Harshita Choudhary of Shri Ram School, Gurgaon, secured the second rank by scoring 98.80 per cent marks while Shreyansh Sinha of St. Paul’s Academy, <g data-gr-id="75">Ghazibad</g>, and Dhruv Pandey of St. Mary’s Academy, Meerut, shared third rank by getting 98.40 per cent marks, said CEO of <g data-gr-id="76">CISCE</g> Gerry Arathoon.
