The CBI on Saturday recovered in total Rs 27 crore from the premises of Shyam Bihari Agrawal, father of Abhishek and Rahul, and Rajiv Mittal, the alleged kingpin in the scam. The CBI sleuths were shocked after they found that Rs 4 lakh were fake, which sources confirmed that the counterfeit notes were used for giving bribes to officials by mixing in wades of original notes.
It took the CBI sleuths 15 hours to count the amount with the help of note counting machines having fake note detectors. Surprisingly, the notes were stashed in 27 different bags. Out of Rs 27 crore, Rs 1.5 crore in cash was recovered from the office and residence of Rajiv <g data-gr-id="13">Mittal,</g> while rest of the cash was seized from the premises of Shyam Bihari Agrawal, who was a small-time trader in 2004 based at Durg in Chhattisgarh.
