IRS officer convicted of graft

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Hyderabad on Wednesday convicted an IRS officer of 2001 batch, presently posted as Deputy Commissioner Income Tax in the national Capital, for amassing wealth disproportionate to the known sources of income. The special court has convicted A Mallikarjuna Rao, (IRS-2001), then Assistant Director of Income Tax (Recovery), New Delhi in a Disproportionate Assets case and sentenced him to undergo five years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine for Rs six lakhs, CBI spokesperson said. She said the said accused is presently posted as Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax (DCIT) in the Office of CCIT, New Delhi.
