Caught in yet again a political controversy Bharatiya Janta Party President Nitin Gadkari drew flak from the Congress on Monday, for his statement drawing a comparison between the IQ level of Swami Vivekananda and fugitive don Dawood Ibhrahim, which he made on Sunday during an event in Bhopal.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said Gadkari’s speech is ‘yet another manifestation of their culture and mentality. How can anyone compare one of India’s foremost thought leaders with a criminal or with somebody who has clearly dubious and notorious records.’
‘It clearly demonstrates both the level and thinking and mentality of the BJP,’ said Tewari. He said while on the one hand there were BJP leaders like Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who ‘professes loyalty and sincerity to the ideals of Swami Vivekananda’ on the other the party chief was comparing the spiritual leader to Dawood Ibrahim.
Tewari said that a ‘mere clarification’ would not suffice and the BJP should ‘apologise to the people of this country, and specifically to the thinking people and the leaders of India.’
‘I think the people of this country are wise enough to really judge as to where the truth lies and a mere clarification would not do. The Bharatiya Janata Party should apologise to the people of this country and specifically to the thinking people and the thought leaders of India,’ he added.
Cong leader Rajiv Shukla also echoed similar sentiments and demanded Gadkari’s apology. While on a the same note, Cong general secretary Digvijay Singh also attacked Gadkari’s remark. Singh tweeted, ‘In a function in Bhopal Gadkari said ‘IQ of Swami Vivekanand and Dawood Ibrahim was same’. Any comment from (Narender) Modi and his fans?’
