IPL spot-fixing: Bookie gets bail

A Delhi court granted an interim bail to an alleged bookie in the IPL spot fixing case after he surrendered before the court.

Praveen Kumar Thakkar had surrendered on 18 January, which sent him to police custody till 24 January. As other accused in this case are on bail, Additional Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma has granted interim bail to the accused Thakkar on the ground of ‘parity of other’ till 7 February. On 18 January, Thakkar was remanded to seven days police custody. After expiry of custody, police told the court that he was not required for further interrogation. Police has said Thakkar (25) was in touch with Rajasthan Royals player Ajit Chandila and two others regarding match-fixing in IPL 2013 series over phone.

The formal set of charges which were filed in 2013 runs into 6,000 pages. The chargesheet named cricketers S. Sreesanth, Chandila, Ankeet Chavan and 39 other accused under offences of cheating and conspiracy of IPC and provisions of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act in the scandal.
