Three people belonging to two different gangs, who were involved in the betting during the IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, were arrested by the Delhi police.
An active illegal telephone exchange that abetted the betting syndicate was also busted by Delhi police, said Sanjay Kumar Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).
Sanjay Jain added that the gangs were allegedly operating the syndicates during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on Wednesday from Sant Nagar in Burari and Karampura. A laptop, two television sets, 118 mobile phones, 70 mobile chargers and 100 earphones were part of recovered articles.
The police received a tip-off alleging that well-organised phone betting rackets were being held all over Delhi and NCR. Based on that, Amit was arrested from Karampura. Around 113 mobile phones along with 100 earphones have been recovered from him. Amit's alleged partner, Kamal Kumar, is still absconding.
'He and Kumar saw the benefits of providing betting lines to bookies as it had little risk and huge profit. The accused installed the setup and started providing betting rates to bookies on uninterrupted mobile phone lines. He further disclosed that he charged Rs 3,000 to 3,500 for each line,' said Jain.
The members of another gang, Shyam Arora and Deepak, who were also involved in the IPL betting, were arrested from Sant Nagar. They were allegedly involved in booking bets from the IPL cricket match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Apparently, they had received bets worth Rs 38 lakh. 'Both of them had been betting on cricket matches for the last two years and started their own betting racket. They gave ball to ball betting rates. They were receiving bets on four mobile phones,' said Jain.
