IPL as sacrosant as Parliament, says Sidhu

Embarrassed by the relentless chatter of cricketer-turned-politician and party MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday said that it should not be forgotten that the Lok Sabha member from Amritsar was also host of a comedy show. Sidhu on Friday had his party colleagues scurrying for cover when he equated the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Parliament.

The BJP leader, who is also a cricket expert on the post-IPL show, countered the allegation that IPL is the Indian Paap (Sin) League. ‘In spite of all the scandals, betrayals & controversies, if the Parliament can still be sacrosanct, why call the #IPL Paap League,’ tweeted Sidhu.

Trying to distance the party from the remark, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that Sidhu made these comments in his capacity as a commentator. ‘Sidhu does not represent the BJP when he is commenting on matches. Apart from being a commentator, he has also been a host on a comedy show,’ said Javadekar while refusing to elaborate on the subject.
