IPL-2014 a soft target for D-company, say sources

After the spot-fixing scandal that erupted during the last edition of the Indian Premier League, sources have told Millennium Post that Delhi police has maintained a vigilant eye on the ongoing IPL-2014. Doubts have arisen over the venues and investigating officials have alleged that they have become soft targets for the notorious D-company.

If sources are to be believed, punters have again become active in order to lure players into fixing the outcome of matches. This season, matches have been divided into two sections. The first part is being played in United Arab Emirates, with Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah as their main attractions. However, the tournament will return to India on 2 May for the second half of the tournament.

Due to clashes with the Lok Sabha elections, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had denied security for the event. Thus, it was decided that the tournament will be jointly hosted by India and UAE.

‘UAE is a safe haven for Dawood Ibrahim, the most wanted underworld don. Interestingly, neither does he like to play or learn cricket nor he is fond of any cricketer. However the don likes to make the score board dance to his tunes,’ the source said.

As the first 20 matches are being played in UAE, those particular matches might become the soft targets for the D-company, the source claimed. ‘There is a possibility that the punters might lure cricketers during after party matches in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Players can be flooded with luxurious gifts as they can be arranged at cheaper prices from the UAE,’ he added.

Delhi police special cell, who busted IPL spot fixing in 2013, in which Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila, Ankeet Chavan were arrested along with 28 bookies, had recorded conversations between cricketers and bookies in their possession. The calls carried conversations that points towards the alleged links of the IPL to underworld.

A highly place source in Delhi police department told Millennium Post, ‘Special teams have been constituted, who are keeping a tab on the bookies, including those arrested bookies who are out on bail. Also, a close watch is being kept on players who might be lured by these bookies. On Wednesday the opening match was played, so the television telecast is being scanned to trace out signs that maybe used for a fix.’

‘The teams were made under the supervision of the senior officials of special cell and crime branch. They have been working on this operation since the last one month to maintain records of players and suspected bookies,’ the source further added.
