IP University records show Sushant was cleared for exams

The college is blaming the University, whereas, the online details reveal that the University had permitted Sushant to appear for his exams.

In a fresh development, it has come to light that the Indraprastha University had permitted Sushant, son of Rajya Sabha’s Joint Director, to appear for the 6th semester. His roll number was there on the appearing list of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, but Amity Law School had barred him from taking the examination.

However, on Wednesday, the college authorities blamed the University for detaining Sushant and 18 others. “The students were detained as per the decision of Guru Gobind Singh IP University and in that Amity Law School itself had absolutely no role,” the official statement says.

According to the students of Amity Law School, this was not the first time students were barred from taking examinations on the basis of poor attendance, dissertations and marks. But afterwards, the college authorities promote them to the next year and allow them to take the exams at the time of another semester. But Sushant, along with 18 others, were asked to repeat the third year.

One of the students close to Sushant told Millennium Post: “From October 2015 to February 2016, Sushant was involved in organising college’s annual National Moot Court Competition. An accident in 2015 had led to a severe foot injury, hence, he was unable to achieve 65 per cent minimum attendance required to be eligible to take exams. He had only 43 per cent attendance.”

As per the students, these 19 students had been assured by Director B P Singh Sehgal and Dr Isheeta Rutabhasini that although they would not be able to take the examinations this year, they could do so next year without having to repeat another year.

Meanwhile, Sushant had sent an e-mail to Ashok Chauhan, Founder and President of Amity Group of Institutions seeking help but to no avail.  In July end, at the time of re-registration into the new academic year, Sushant along with those 18 students found that they are ineligible for admission to the new academic year. This was the reason Sushant went into depression and committed suicide at his Sarojini Nagar’s residence on August 10.

It has been learnt that out of the 19 students, 13 of them have withdrawn their admission from the college.

Meanwhile, the authorities have asked three faculty members including the director to go on ‘forced leave’ till inquiry is completed.
