IOA battle between Randhir, Chautala heats up

Randhir Singh on Friday received support in his fight for the post of president of the Indian Olympic Association in the upcoming elections with five National Sports Federations and one state Olympic Association backing him for the top job.

The Sports Federations and the state Association wrote letters to Randhir Singh, promising him support and also urged the other Federations and associations to join hands for the November 25 polls.

‘We the Sports Federations namely National Rifle Association of India, Lawn Bowling Federation of India, Judo Federation, Kabbaddi Federation, Netball Federation of India urge all National Sports Federations and State Olympic Associations to rise above the factionalism and petty politics to safe guard sports in the country and come openly to support the candidature of Radhir Singh for the post of President of the Indian Olympic Association,’ the letter said.

Five more National Sports Federations on Friday pledged their support for Abhay Singh Chautala, who is all set to contest for the president’s post in the Indian Olympic Association elections scheduled to be held on November 25.

Chautala, current IOA vice-president and chairman of Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF),  got support from Wushu Federation of India scretary general Manish Kackar.

 Table Tennis Federation of India secretary general Dhanraj Chaudhary, and other nitable bodies such as Modern Pentathlon Federation of India, Netball Federation of India, Gymnastics Federation of India etc with the secretary generals coming out in his favour.
