Defending champions Indian Oil brightened their semifinal hopes with a 5-3 win over Hockey Bhopal in the quarterfinal league match of the 117th all-India Beighton Cup, the oldest hockey tournament in India, at SAI artificial turf on Tuesday.Hockey Bhopal drew first blood with Mohammad Taj’s 16th minute goal but last year’s winners rode on double strikes by Gurjinder Singh (34th, 40th) to take a 2-1 lead. Roshan Minz (52nd, 68th) and Gunashekhar (57th) completed the tally for Indian Oil, even as Hockey Bhopal showed some fight through Osafur Rahman (53rd) and Amir-ur-Rahman’s efforts. In another match, Army XI scored through Bhushan Kujur (20th), Muthanna (28th), Poovana B P (62nd) and Ignace Tirkey (69th) to thrash Indian Overseas Bank 4-1.
