Facing flak over poor public transport services in the district, the twin cities — Noida and Greater Noida are planning a holistic transport system to integrate bus, auto and metro connectivity.
They have also sought details of nearly 200 buses given to Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Department (UPSRTC) for plying between Noida and Greater Noida, as these buses are reportedly running in other parts of the State.
According to authority officials, they have started the process of integrating all means of public transport to ensure last mile connectivity in and around both the cities. The Noida Traffic Cell, responsible for managing traffic in the region, after conducted a thorough survey of the district, have started constructing bus shelters as well as auto-taxi stands. The officials informed that out of 280 bus shelters approved at different routes, 62 have already been constructed.
As many as 28 auto-taxi stands out of 76 passed, have also been constructed. Authority officials further said the buses will be stationed at under-constructed bus depot, spread on five-acre land in Noida Sector 94. The bus shelter has the capacity to park 400 buses.
The buses will be technically-equipped with Intelligent Transport Management System and GPS.
‘This will help ensure that the drivers follow rules and regulations. It will also display the real-time location of vehicles to the commuters’, said Sandeep Chandara, in-charge of Noida Traffic Cell.
He also said that they are in the process of finalising routes for the buses as well as autos and taxis to be plied between two cities.
‘We are taking all possible measures to regulate traffic in the entire district. We have convened meetings with concerned departments in recent past to materialise the plan,’ added Chandra.
