The BJP on Monday demanded cancellation of the ‘goodwill’ India-Pakistan cricket series, which is scheduled to start later this month, alleging Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik had insulted India during his recent visit.
BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said: ‘The Indo-Pak cricket series should be cancelled. What kind of goodwill we are creating by playing cricket matches after Malik’s visit.’
Sinha also accused Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde of not answering Malik in the same language. Malik triggered a controversy by equating 26/11 Mumbai attack with Babri Masjid demolition and describing LeT terrorist Abu Jundal as an operative of the Indian intelligence agency.
‘Our home minister has shown weakness by not responding to Rehman Malik in kind. He should have immediately responded. If Malik used hard words, Shinde should have used hard words,’ Sinha said.
Ravishankar Prasad, deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, BJP, asked the government to explain why Malik was invited to New Delhi.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Prasad asked why the government failed to tell Malik that the Allahabad High Court has already given its verdict and those claiming it to be a mosque have been unable to prove it.
