Instead of cleaning streets, workers play ludo

‘Ludo’ seems to be favourite pastime of sanitation workers on duty. That is what a senior Noida officer found them  playing on his surprise inspection on Thursday morning.

‘I was surprised to observe that the daily-wage sanitation workers were playing ‘Ludo’ after making entry in the attendence register. We have ordered strict action against the contractor and the officers concerned for not lifting garbage and cleaning the area properly,’ said Karn Singh Chauhan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Noida.

Chauhan was on surprise inspection of sanitaion activities in various sectors of Noida and was shocked to see the pitiable condition of the area despite paying thousands of workers everyday for cleaning the city.

Chauhan started his three hours surprise inspection at 8 am and found debris everywhere in the city, including posh areas and market places.

When he reached Sector 37 at around 11 am, he found garbage dumped outside the blocks and on the road sides. Wanting an explanation, Chauhan marched towards Ganga Shopping Centre in Sector 29, to the office of the contractor,  where labourers make their entry in the attendence register. There he encoutnered the ‘Ludo’ playing workers. Chauhan ordered strict action against the contractor and summoned his file to his office.

At another place in the city he ordered deduction of Rs 5,000 from the payment of the contractor due to poor sanitation in his area. A field officer and several others of the deparment were repriminded.
