‘Inhalation of mud’ led to US man’s death: Post-mortem report

‘Inhalation of mud’ led to the death of US national Caitanya Lila Holt after he fell down in a paddy field while being chased by villagers upon suspicions of being a thief, his post-mortem report has provisionally concluded. “The provisional cause of death has been identified as aspiration of grey-brownish matter. There are multiple injuries on the body, but they are non-fatal,” a senior doctor from the Goa Medical College and Hospital said. 

The post-mortem was conducted last evening at GMC. 30-year-old Holt on Tuesday died after he fell down in a sludgy paddy field while being chased by some villagers in Korgao who mistook him for a thief. When contacted, Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaonkar, refused to divulge further details of the post- mortem, saying the case is under investigation.
