Ineffective policing: Rising crime graph in national Capital paints dismal picture

According to the data furnished by the police department, there were 2,900 rape cases, 6,435 molestation cases, 11,009 snatching cases, 999 <g data-gr-id="42">attempt</g> to murder cases and 9,234 burglary cases between 2014 and 2015. Data revealed that rape cases, which were around 1,636 in 2013, have increased to 2,166 in 2014. This means there has been an increase of 32.39 % in such cases.
From January 1 to August 31, 2014, there has been an increase of 1,447 rape cases, while in 2015 in the same period, 1,453 cases were reported. However, the cases of eve-teasing have been consistently growing in the Capital. In 2013, around 3,515 molestation cases were reported.
Meanwhile in 2014, <g data-gr-id="57">total number</g> of 4,322 molestation cases was reported. Based on the above data, there has been an increase of 22.95% cases. There were 2,843 molestation cases between January 1 and August 31, 2014. However, the number of cases increased to 3,592 till August 31, 2015.
The cases of snatching have also seen a considerable rise in the last two years. In 2013, around 3,638 cases of snatching were reported in Delhi-NCR and around 7,350 cases were reported in 2014. It clearly indicates that there has been an increase of 102.3 % in snatching cases. The previous year’s data has revealed a significant rise in snatching cases from <g data-gr-id="89">4,602 in</g> August 31, <g data-gr-id="91">2014</g> to <g data-gr-id="90">6,407 in</g> August 31, 2015, which is an increase of 39.22 %.
In 2014, attempt to murder cases <g data-gr-id="102">have</g> increased from 479 to 520 between January 1 and August 31, 2015. In 2013, around 585 cases came to light and in 2014, around 770 cases were reported. Between 2013 and 2014, the data revealed that there has been an increase of 31.62% of such cases.
On the other hand, there has also been an increase of burglary cases. In 2013, around 2,835 cases were reported, <g data-gr-id="109">while</g> in 2014, there were around 10,309 cases. From January 1, <g data-gr-id="119">2014</g> to August 31, 2015, there has been an increase of 35.34 % burglary cases.
