Doctors attending to Indrani Mukerjea, prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, at the JJ Hospital on Thursday said she had not contracted dengue.
The 43-year-old former media executive was brought to the state-run facility from Byculla Women’s prison on Wednesday after her platelet levels dropped. Hospital Dean TP Lahane said on Thursday that though Indrani’s platelet count had dipped, she was not diagnosed with dengue. Her tests (for dengue) were negative, he said.
After hospitalisation, her platelet level had improved considerably, Lahane said, adding that a dip in platelet count may occur sometimes due to fever and not necessarily dengue.
Lahane said a decision on Indrani’s discharge would be taken on Thursday evening by doctors treating her after a proper medical examination and her platelet count check.
Indrani is said to have been suffering from fever and body ache for almost a week.
On Wednesday, prison authorities had informed a magistrate court in Mumbai that Indrani was suspected to have contracted dengue as her platelet count went down to 65,000.
