India’s largest underpass coming up in Sarita Vihar

Northern Railway is constructing one of the largest underpasses of the country under railway track near Sarita Vihar. This underpass is being constructed using the advanced box pushing technique.
This is probably the largest underpass being constructed using the said technique with uninterrupted train movement.

The construction of the underpass is actually being carried out by Northern Railway on behalf of the Delhi Development Authority. Once complete, it will connect Okhla Industrial Area with Kalindi Kunj.
It will help reduce the travel distance between Sarita Vihar and Okhla from 9 km to 1 km and will cross the Delhi-Mumbai rail route, which is one of the busiest rail lines in the country. Around 300 trains run on this route daily. The use of box pushing technique has ensured uninterrupted flow of rail traffic throughout the construction period.
