India’s affluent make average of Rs1.5 mn a year

The average annual household income of India's affluent is Rs 1.5 million while the average age is 34 years, younger than most Asia Pacific markets, a report says. As per the Visa Affluent Index, that was calculated by asking respondents whether they plan to increase or decrease their discretionary spending, India was ranked third. 

The list was topped by Indonesia followed by China.

The Visa Affluent Study 2015 was conducted across affluent consumers in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and India. The survey noted that <g data-gr-id="21">majority</g> of India's affluent are optimistic about the country's economic situation, with 74 per cent believing that it will improve in the next one year.

The positive sentiment is also highlighted in their outlook about their personal and household incomes, with 80 per cent expecting their personal incomes to increase and 78 <g data-gr-id="17">per cent</g> expecting their household incomes to rise, in the coming year. 

The study <g data-gr-id="20">said,</g> 8 in 10 believe their personal and household income will increase in coming year and they also plan to spend more on <g data-gr-id="16">discretionary</g> item.
