IndianOil pips private companies in innovative use of QR code

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) has used the QR code in its Annual Report for the third year. It is the first time a company used the QR code in its Annual Report. The QR code enables the shareholders, employees and others to access the entire annual report on their smart phones.
Not only the annual report, one can spot these QR codes on IndianOil’s corporate advertisements and hoardings which directly connect a person to the IndianOil website which is loaded with detailed information.  

A IOCL senior official said, ‘Using QR code in various publications is a revolutionary move. It not only leverages the technological advancements but saves time and paper. It is an environment friendly mode which makes sound ecological sense. I hope more and more PSUs would utilize this medium effectively in the near future.’

PSUs in India are giving private firms stiff competition when it comes to innovative use of technology. Though we are yet to see extensive use of QR codes in big campaigns in India, the technological revolution is set to change the face of brand promotion in India.
