Indian Railways now more hi-tech, customer friendly

The Indian Railways, it seems has certainly gone hi-tech and more customer-friendly. Mobile App for women’s security in Mumbai suburban trains, CCTV cameras in compartments and countrywide helpline number 138 are among the new feathers in the cap of the Railways, besides the introduction of next generation e-ticketing system and e-catering services in 134 pairs of trains.

A ‘Customer Complaint Web Portal and Mobile Application’ (Android/Windows based mobile app) has been launched. The scheme of paperless unreserved ticketing using Mobile phone has also started, and not only that SMS alerts to give <g data-gr-id="23">wake</g> up calls has also been introduced.

The Railway’s has also launched “Yatri Ticket/Sewa Kendra (YTSK) Scheme to allow private agents to operate ticketing terminals for selling reserved as well as unreserved tickets. Talking about the new initiative undertaken in the last one year and official said: “Next generation e-ticketing system has been introduced and e-catering services have started in 134 pairs of trains with a view to <g data-gr-id="33">serve</g> meal to the passengers at their seat by placing order through a phone call, SMS or website. The facility of SMS alerts has been started on informing the status of reserved tickets. “All India Security helpline 182 has also been launched to help report any unsavoury incidents,” he said.

With a focus on system improvement and comfort to the passengers, the Ministry has started “e-concierge services in 22 railway stations.” Instructions have been issued to TTEs to help senior citizens/pregnant women to get lower berths. E-Samiksha has been launched for on-line monitoring of <g data-gr-id="28">implementation</g> of railway Budget announcements. Instructions have been issued for <g data-gr-id="26">organizing</g> training of frontline staffs on soft skills. <g data-gr-id="30">E-demand</g> system for booking freight demands on-line.”


Central Rly augments passenger capacity 
 In the largest-ever augmentation in its history, Central Railway on Tuesday announced it has attached 100 coaches in 50 trains on a permanent basis, thus increasing the passenger accommodation in them considerably. “Never in the past has any railway attached 100 coaches permanently. This has led to <g data-gr-id="50">increase</g> of earnings to the tune of Rs 1.19 crore daily,” Central Railway chief PRO Narendra Patil told reporters here.
