India through their lens

Memories come alive and moments are relived through photographs and when one gets to witness the art of photography, it becomes a different experience altogether. 

In order to witness the best of amateur photography and to explore India through the lens, a photography exhibition on the theme ‘Drishti on India’ by the students of the School of Fashion & Design (SOFD), G D Goenka University was held on Monday at the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre in the national Capital. 

The students displayed photographs from a wide range of themes,  all showcasing significant aspects of India through their lens. SOFD is a leading institution of higher learning with strong international collaborations. The exhibition, hosted, in association with the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre is an endeavour to showcase the brilliant work of budding designers. 

The photography exhibition also put the light on the training and learning provided to the students throughout the semester. Curated by Dr Pilar Maria Guerrieri, leading architect and educationalist, the event was attended by Alessandra Bertini Malgarini, Director of IIC, pro Vice Chancellor; Dr Deependra Kumar Jha and Prof. Promil Pande, Dean, GD Goenka School of Fashion & Design. 

Other attendees present included Mohit Bhardwaj, Tushar Jaitley and Jasleen Ahluwalia, assistant professors of SOFD, Deepak Chakravorty ,head (VM) Adidas India; designers, participating students, their families, friends and others.

Prof. Promil Pande, Dean, of GD Goenka School of Fashion & Design said: “At GD Goenka University, we aim to provide a global platform to promote and inspire our students. Through the exhibition we want to provide our students an opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity. The exhibition is a visual narrative of the students’ impressions of India. The diverse themes make for interesting viewing.”

Dr Pilar Maria Guerrieri said: “The students have done an incredible job and it is a great experience to watch Indian culture from their perspective. It has given us a deeper insight and knowledge about varied cultures and traditions as understood and expressed by the students.”
