India, Pakistan renew talks, confidence-building measures

India and Pakistan Thursday reviewed the implementation of conventional confidence-building measures (CBMs) and decided to continue their talks to bolster these at various levels.

India and Pakistan held the sixth round of expert-level talks on conventional CBMs here. During the talks, the Indian delegation was led by Y.K. Sinha, additional secretary (Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran), in the external affairs ministry, and the Pakistani side was led by Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, additional secretary (UN&EC), ministry of foreign affairs.

‘The talks were held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere,’ said a joint statement after the talks.

‘The two sides reviewed the implementation of existing CBMs, including the ceasefire along the LoC, exchanged ideas to further advance the CBM process and reaffirmed their commitment to continue discussions with the aim of strengthening conventional CBMs,’ said the statement.

The two sides will now report the progress made during the current round of talks to their respective foreign secretaries.
