India Internet userbase crosses 350-mn milestone in June

“<g data-gr-id="37">Internet</g> (in India) has reached an inflection point. The consolidated numbers affirm the fact that <g data-gr-id="36">Internet</g> in India has now become inclusive, which augurs well for the industry and society at large,” the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) said in a statement.

The number of Internet users has grown over 26 per cent from 278 million in October 2014. The number of mobile Internet users has also grown about 40 per cent from 159 million users in October last year. “The Internet in India took more than a decade to move from 10 million to 100 million and 3 years from 100 to 200 million. However, it took only a year to move from 200 to 300 million users. Clearly, <g data-gr-id="38">Internet</g> is mainstream in India today,” it said.

Meanwhile, Chairman emeritus of Tata Sons Ratan Tata has made a personal investment of an undisclosed amount in the online marketplace for chefs Holachef.

Launched in September 2014 by Saurabh Saxena and Anil <g data-gr-id="29">Gelra</g>, Holachef has seen substantial growth in Mumbai and Pune, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Ratan Tata’s name and body of work is synonymous with trust and consumer focus. With his guidance, Holachef is looking to become a leader in the food-tech space,” Saurabh Saxena, Co-founder and chief executive Holachef said.

Ratan Tata in his personal capacity has invested in over a dozen new businesses so far, most of them being technology driven. Holachef had raised a first strategic round of funding (Series A) of Rs 20 crore in a round led by Kalaari Capital in June 2015. Anand Lunia’s India Quotient also participated in this investment. 

eBay partners Best Deal TV; to export products to US, UK
eBay India on Wednesday announced that it has partnered with 24/7 home shopping channel Best Deal TV to enable export of celebrity-endorsed products to the US, Australia and the UK. Best Deal TV will list 2,000 stock keeping units (SKUs) across home, fashion and lifestyle categories, with products being endorsed by Bollywood celebrities on eBay. “eBay India’s cross-border trade (CBT) business today provides 20,000 entrepreneurs an opportunity to export to global audiences. This business has grown exponentially and is a strategic fit to our growth in India,” eBay India V-Prez and MD Latif Nathani said. “We aim to expand Best Deal TV products offering to over 17 countries in the next six months,” <g data-gr-id="60">Nathani</g> said. He further said that the partnership with Best Deal TV will enable eBay to offer credible and celebrity-endorsed products to audiences across these three countries. “Since our launch... The collaboration with eBay India will help us service those and many other Bollywood-loving customers worldwide,” Raj Kundra Chief Executive Best Deal TV India said.
