India clubbed with Pakistan in kabaddi

Indian men’s kabaddi team, which would be bidding for its seventh straight gold in next month’s Asian Games, has been pooled along side arch-rivals Pakistan in Group A of the competition.
The other two teams in Group A of the men’s competition are Bangladesh and Thailand, as per the draw of the event commencing on September 28 in Incheon, South Korea. The women’s outfit, which is also the title holder having clinched the crown on the event’s debut four years ago at Guangzhou, China, is in Group A with Bangladesh and hosts South Korea which is also fielding the men’s team.
The men’s team, which lifted the title at every edition of the pan-Asian sports spectacle since kabaddi was introduced in Beijing in 1990, opens its campaign against Bangladesh on September 28. India will take on Pakistan on September 30 after meeting Thailand a day earlier. In women’s competition, India’s league games are scheduled on September 28 (versus Bangladesh) and hosts South Korea (September 30).
India cagers face Palestine, Saudi
Mumbai: Indian men have been grouped with Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan in the preliminary phase of the basketball competition in the 17th Asian Games. The women, on the other hand, have secured a bye into the quarterinals, according to the available draw for the competition. The men hoopsters, ranked 61st in the world and 11th in Asia, are to open their Group B campaign against Palestine on September 20, the day after the Games open.
Their remaining games against Saudi Arabia, ranked nine places below them in the continent, and Kazakhstan, ranked one rung above India in Asia, are scheduled on September 21 and 22. The women, graded 40th in the world and 5th in the continent, are to start their campaign with a direct quarter final fight against higher ranked Japan (17th in world and 3rd in Asia) on September 28 for a berth in the semis.
