On Wednesday, the Delhi Police shall organise a full dress rehearsal of Independence Day, due to which, there will be traffic restrictions on specific roads of the national Capital.
These restrictions shall be similar to those to be imposed on 15 August. The following roads will be closed from 9 am to 5 pm for general traffic on Wednesday: Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail, Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail, S.P.Mukherjee Marg from H.C.Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk, Chandni Chowk from Fountain to Red Fort Chowk, New Darya Ganj Road from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg and Link Road from Esplanade Road to Netaji Subhash Marg.
According to a traffic advisory issued by the Delhi Police, there shall be special checking of all vehicles, both private and commercial, entering the Capital from the neighbouring states through border entry points from 8 pm onwards and will continue throughout the intervening night between Tuesday and Wednesday.
‘There would be elaborate traffic arrangements to facilitate the movement of VIP vehicles, invitees and general public to reach the place of function and also to ensure safe and smooth flow of traffic in other parts of the city,’ said Anil Shukla, Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic).
He further said, owing to the full dress rehearsals the entire city will be under tight security cover.
Barricades and checking will be intensified within the city and at the borders. Citizens are requested to plan their movements accordingly.
‘For hassle free journey, commuters may avail the services of Delhi Metro,’ he added.
