It is for the first time in 10 years that crimes of heinous nature have dipped as compared to records of previous years. Be it dacoity, murder, attempt to murder, robbery, kidnapping or riots; the crime rate has gone down. However, there is a slight rise of four per cent in cases of rape in the national Capital but seven per cent decline in incidents of molestation of women.
According to recent statistics of Delhi Police, till June 15 this year, as many as 2,556 cases under sections of robbery have been registered at various police stations in the city. However, last year till June 15 as many as 3,152 cases were lodged under the same act.
The total number of robberies that took place in 2015 were 7,407. It clearly indicates that there is a decrease of around 19 per cent in robbery cases in the national Capital.
When the senior police officials of North Zone and South Zone were asked about how the cops managed to curb robbery cases in the city they credited increased patrolling by the cops (by a constable to Joint Commissioner rank officers) as the major reason.
In May, Millennium Post had reported that Delhi Police chief Alok Verma is leaving no stone unturned to curb incidents of crime across the city, specially focusing on street crimes after it was observed that during initial months of 2016, the crime graph had increased.
Speaking to Millennium Post, a senior police official of Special Commissioner rank said: “All the officials of their respective jurisdictions are every day analysing the crime trends and at the end of that particular month, meetings are being held to launch a counter against those trend-setters. As a result, the crime rate has come down.”
The date further reveals that this year till June 15, as many as 21 cases of dacoity were registered whereas last year till June 15, 45 cases had been registered. Interestingly, there has been a 15 per cent decline in murder cases in the city. Similarly, there is a fall of eight per cent in the registration of attempts to murder cases.
This year till June 15, as many as 11 cases of kidnapping for ransom were reported, however, last year a total of 36 cases were reported out of which 19 took place till June 15. There is, however, an increase in cases of snatching and motor vehicle theft.
