In the dhol and bass business

So, they call themselves RDB (Rhythm Dhol Bass) and since 2001, these guys have been upping the odds on independent artistes who work on mixing western genres with Punjabi beats and vocals.
They aren't your regular indie band, mind you! You have heard them as they brought out Rafta Rafta in Namaste London, Om Mangalam in Kambakkht Ishq, Sher ki Daum in Speedy Singhs, Paise Paisa in De Dana Dan (they clearly love Akshay Kumar as much as we do! Win win!) and last but not the least - Tamanche pe Disco from Bullet Raja. 2007 saw them release their 25th album but things in RDB have gone through a sea of change. What started with three brothers in Bradford has come down to a one captain unit with Surjeet Singh at the helm.

RDB's musical journey began with singing at the gurdwara, 'We used to assist our father in performing at the gurdwara. This gave us a great understanding of music and we mixed this with our passion for technology and started experimenting with sounds,' says Singh speaking to Millennium Post as he also pointed out that their personal tracks still have a lot of religious influences. Singh was in the Capital with his band to perfrom at Kingdom of Dreams recently.

In 2003, they won Best Club DJ Bhangra at the UK Asian Music Awards. The group is on the Brampton Walk of Fame (this of course we ripped off from Wikipedia) and as we all know these guys have collaborated with the likes of Snoop Dogg and T-Pain.

Singh says that earlier Bollywood did not have the flexibility to allow unique sounds into the fray but now things have altered extensively, thus collaborations, like those RDB have been a part of, are more common. He also added that they were currently working on four more Bollywood projects and are also collaborating with an independent artiste from Delhi when we quizzed him about what comes next.

Singh marks out losing his elder brother Kuldeep in 2012 as the lowest point in his career and says that things have changed in the band (he's the only founder member around) but the spirit remains the same. So what would Singh be doing if he wasn't a part of RDB? 'Nothing!' he says 'If I wasn't this, I would still be doing this,' he adds.
We admire the conviction sir!

It’s in the stars?

You may be a believer or a non believer, but then if someone tells you that you might meet the love of your life soon in all seriousness, you will want to know more! My mother has made sure that me and my siblings never get within a mile of an astrologer. She maintains that if men/women with the birth charts predict something bad for us it translates to sleepless nights for her. That makes her more of a believer than otherwise and that is exactly what I told Jai Madaan when I crossed paths with her. Now who is Jai Madaan? Well if I went by her card there is no end to all the ‘crafts’ she knows and practices - but to put it very simply, Madaan is someone who might have the very answers you are looking for! She’s a popular face on national television when it comes to astrology and  tarot but all that aside, she is someone you can talk to (which we think is vital when it comes to life and predictions about it).

‘I am not trained,’ says Madaan explaining that she didn’t exactly take classes to learn how to read tarot cards or interpret the lines on your hands, ‘It all came to me because I think the almighty wanted it that way. I get the answers from him and that’s exactly what I tell people who come to me. To believe or not to believe is all in the mind,’ she adds. Madaan is an expert in hypnotherapy, past life regressions, vaastu, numerology and the list goes on and all this, mind you, with a stunning success rate.

What any human being can appreciate is a willing listener and someone who oozes a happy aura. I don’t know if I believe or I don’t. But she did tell me something that I am going to look out for and yes I would definitely meet her again. So should you guys!
You can thank us later!
