Apex Court takes a dig at security cover to Asaram BAPU
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday, while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking withdrawal of security cover to undeserving people using it as status symbol and misuse of red beacons and VIP security, questioned the government for unnecessarily providing heavy security to Asaram Bapu without taking his name. A bench comprising of Justice G S Singhvi and Justice V Gopala Gowda observed, ‘For last four-five days, the electronic media is showing that hordes of security personnel are guarding one accused. There is no need of this kind of security.’
Babri case: SC allows CBI’s plea, prepones hearing to October
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday preponed by about two months the date of hearing in Babri Masjid demolition case against senior BJP leader L K Advani and 19 others. The CBI pleaded for an early hearing. Pleading for early hearing, senior advocate P P Rao, appearing for CBI, submitted that the case was earlier directed to be listed in September for hearing but registry record says that the matter will be taken up by the apex court in December. Senior advocate K K Venugopal, appearing for Advani, also agreed to preponement of the hearing date. A bench headed by Justice G S Singhvi passed the order and preponed the case to first week of October which was earlier listed for hearing in December.
SC dismisses plea of 2G case accused for recalling its orders
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the pleas of the accused in the 2G spectrum case seeking recall of its two orders barring the high court from hearing the matters arising out of the scam. The court dismissed the petition, saying that the two orders were passed keeping in mind the larger public interest involved in the matter and the interest of the accused persons that there should not be any impediment in speedy trial.
