A 15-year-old girl was killed while her minor male friend suffered critical injuries when their speeding vehicle rammed into a tree in South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar area late on Thursday night.
The accident took place at around 12.30 am, when the couple went out for a long drive in their Maruti Zen car. They were neighbours and from the same school. They were returning to their homes in Air India Colony, when the incident happened.
“The boy lost control over the car near Vasant Kunj, D Block and rammed into a roadside tree. The impact was so strong that the left side of the car was totally shattered, causing a loud bang to be heard across the neighbourhood,” said a senior police official.
The boy who was driving the car is 16 years old. A passerby made a PCR call, following which, the police rushed both of them to the Trauma Centre, where the girl was declared brought dead and the boy was recuperating. The police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving in this connection and further investigations are on.
In a separate incident, a 17-year-old girl died and her boyfriend was injured when their Scooty hit a stationary bus in East Delhi’s Pandav Nagar on Thursday. Incidentally, a team of police was already available at the spot as the same bus was involved in another accident.
The deceased has been identified as Kusum Jha, who hailed from Bihar and lived with relatives in Mandawali. Police said the incident occurred when she was travelling with her friend Raju (26), a resident of Mayur Vihar.
