Gandhi Art Gallery is hosting a group show of paintings, installations, sculptures and photography titled The Hay Wain. Conceptualised by Iqbal Krishna, the show is dedicated to John Constable – the great master painter of Europe.
The show aims to expand horizons and to provide a worthy platform to the promising artists, whose works couldn’t come in <g data-gr-id="26">limelight</g>, due to lack of exposure and inadequate resource to display their art and talent. Renowned artists like Shridhar Iyer, Manish <g data-gr-id="29">Pushkale</g>, Hemraj, and Akhilesh are supporting the show to help the artists’ curve their way in this field.
The Hay Wain is a painting by John Constable, in 1821, which depicts a rural scene on the river Stour flowing between the English counties of Suffolk and Essex. It hangs in the National Gallery in London and is regarded as ‘Constable’s most famous image’ and one of the greatest and most popular English paintings. Painted in oils on canvas, the work depicts three horses as its central feature, pulling a hay wain or large farm cart across the river. Willy Lott’s Cottage, also the subject of an eponymous painting by Constable, is visible on the far left.
The scene takes place near Flatford Mill in Suffolk, though since the Stour forms the border of two counties, the left bank is in Suffolk and the landscape on the right bank is in Essex.
The gallery displays the masters collection by its founder Vinod Jain and Manoj Jain. It provides a global platform to the upcoming and emerging artists of India.
The participating artists are – Aditi Garg, Ajay Mehra, Anisha Binani, Benu Gupta, Chrianjib Panda, Mamta Rokana, Gauri Sahni, Gayatri Gaud, Ghazal Alagh, Apurba Pal, Harpreet Kaur, Hemraj, M.F Husain, Ram Kumar,V.S Gaitone,Tyeb Mehta, Manjeet Bawa, F.N Souja, Badrinarayan, J Swaminathan, Geeta Das, Honey Gupta, Madhulika Mohon, Poonam Aggarwal, Rajesh Gajjar, Sarath K S Saroj Paojit, Seema Kashyap, Kiran Soni Gupta, Shalu Singh, Sridhar Iyer and Akhil Esh.
