In a first, JNU to hold tea party to chant NaMo’s name!

Over 240 years ago, a political protest set into motion a chain of events which culminated into American Revolution. It became famous as the Boston Tea Party. A simialr tea party is now being planned in Delhi’s bastion of leftist thought, Jawaharlal Nehru University, albeit by student volunteers with rightwing affiliation.

Christened ‘NaMo Tea Party’, after BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and his roots, the cuppa would be on offer at Sabarmati Dhaba on the JNU campus. ‘We are organising NaMo Tea Party at JNU campus on 3 February from 4 to 6 pm, to discuss the upcoming general elections,’ said Amba Shankar Bajpai, chief organiser of the event, who is currently pursuing his PhD in International Politics from JNU. ‘We want to create awareness amongst students about Narendra Modi’s motto of ‘India First, Party Second and Self Last’ and his slogan claiming, ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’, that has rekindled hope in this country. 2014 is not just another election but it will be a fight to reclaim our country’, added Bajpai.

Modi was invited to address JNU students in May 2013, but he was unable to do that because of protests by students affiliated to left-leaning parties. Earlier in 2013, Modi had given a speech at Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi, which was deemed a success by his supporters. Organisers have approached the JNU administration to deploy security guards during the course of the event. Guests invited for this session include Harsh Vardhan, leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly, Meenakshi Lekhi, BJP’s national spokesperson and Parvesh Sahib Singh, BJP MLA from Mehrauli constituency.
