Imran threatens to file murder charge against Pak PM Sharif

Imran Khan on Sunday said he will file murder cases against Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his interior minister. Stating that time is up for the Nawaz Sharif government, Imran Khan said Sharif government is terrorising people of Pakistan. However, his party, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday suffered a major setback after party president and senior politician Javed Hashmi was expelled after he criticised the cricketer-turned-politician’s decision to march to the official residence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Khan also expelled three lawmakers who refused to resign from parliament. Hashmi last night refused to join the march towards Prime Minister’s House, saying it was against the collective party decision and would result in bloodshed. ‘The decision to march to parliament was taken by Khan himself in violation of party decision,’ he said.

‘This kind of behaviour is not seen in any country in the world, where people pick up sticks and protest outside the PM House,’ Hashmi said, adding Khan’s decisions would lead to imposition of martial law in the country.

Khan hit back by expelling Hashmi from the party. The expelled PTI lawmakers include Gulzar Khan from Peshawar, Nasir Khan Khattak from Karak, Mussarat Ahmedzed from Swat.

After night-long clashes between anti-government demonstrators and security forces that left three people dead and about 450 others injured, the situation continued to be tense and uncertain even as the powerful Army chief General Raheel Sharif summoned a meeting of corps commanders on Sunday. The clashes broke out late Saturday night when the demonstrators who have laid siege to the heart of the Pakistani establishment, housing the Presidency, the National Assembly, the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister’s Office, sought to storm Nawaz Sharif’s residence nearby after breaking through the police barricade.

Sharif shifts to Lahore
Fearing backlash from anti-government protesters, Pak PM Sharif has moved to Lahore. Roads leading to his Lahore residence have been blocked and heavy contingent of police deployed. The move came after Imran Khan supporters were baton-charged outside the Sharif’s residence in Islamabad.
